In the belly of the night we fled, leaving the light switches dripping with blood. They would find their end in a flicker of red magic, ballooning against perspective. We took our flight hand in hand to the very edge of the horizon and further into the darkness. The world crumbled behind us in a haze of azure mist, and as we walked we met misfortune and the lazy penetration of death.
I could never find your eyes, engorged from the loss of life; we stumbled forward blind into the last nightfall, a picture of red and green, of beauty and of murder. We walked for a thousand years, emaciated smiles forced into the ground staring at the darkening stars. We were hungry, but consumed by loss and confusion. Anaesthesia wrapped our minds and prevented collapse. The tug of your hand was meaningless and whole.
I swallowed my hair and clawed at my skin and tasted the very last of civilisation. The passing of all ruinous and unbearable. Sorrow rose in my throat and howled at the empty realm. The bones broke in your feet and I drained the blood from our throats.
We held hands on the crux of oblivion and wept as we kissed goodbye for the final time; an epitaph of love found in our shadows, cast for miles. Time passed by our thoughts and blanketed our bodies with ash. We had never existed at all.
I always enjoy seeing your blog on my feed!
Thanks for doing you! :P

Thanks Val! The best way to get rid of shivers is to read a nice, heart-warming children’s story. ‘Smelly the Goat’, anyone?

This is really potent imagery! I like the line about swallowing my own hair. And also the line about having never existed. Wow! Its a romantic, nightmare. I really enjoyed this strange twist of a post, but have not got the skill to explain why but I’ll try anyway. Im thinking something like a passion spurred murder suicide which then juxtaposes into a kinda world were many realities exist at the same time. Like levels of heaven, sort of. Two lovers who left behind their shells in a blody mess. It was your use of the word they and we, which seem to imply the characters are both watching it and having it happen to them.

That’s such an interesting interpretation: ‘Two lovers who left behind their shells in a blody mess’ is now forever going to be ingrained in my mind whenever I think of this story. Thank you; you’ve caused me to look at my work in a new light :)

Powerful, poetic, and dreamlike. I so enjoy your work, half because I can’t figure out how to do it like that. I bow to your imagination.

Thank you so much Mikey! Things like this just form in my brain, in the dark. I do wish my imagination would behave itself sometimes, though.

“Sorrow rose in my throat and howled at the empty realm. The bones broke in your feet and I drained the blood from our throats.” Come on, Totally Triumphant! (Notice I’m doing it anyway, lol)
“We held hands on the crux of oblivion and wept as we kissed goodbye for the final time;” I don’t care what this means, if there’s Kissing and Holding Hands, it’s goina get me, lol Especially used in this way
